• Insulted Belarus Postcard FRONT FINAL

As part of its current production, "Insulted. Belarus," City Garage will present a reading of the second of Kureichik’s Two Plays of Revolution, which he wrote as a companion piece in 2021. This powerful documentary play is based on the actual testimony, letters, interviews, and memoirs of the people actually involved in the fight against Lukashenko’s repressive regime. Translator John Freedman describes it as “an equally hard-hitting requiem for what the eventual failure of that revolution doomed so many people to suffer.” The event will be by donation and all proceeds will go to the Viasna Human Rights Center, which is fighting for democracy in Belarus. The organization was founded by activist Ales Bialiatski in 1996 to contribute to development of a civic society in Belarus based on the respect for human rights. Viasna (which means "spring" in Belarusian) provides legal defense for citizens and political prisoners, and promotes democratic change. Bialiatski was imprisoned on trumped-up charges in 2021, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023. For more information: https://spring96.org/en
