Sanctuaries
Check out this exhibition!
Sanctuaries is a group exhibition of Armory contemporary teaching artists who expand upon the meaning and imagination of sanctuaries, true and metaphysical, as spaces of protection, agency, preservation, and healing. Through painting, textile, ceramic, photography, risography, and mixed media, each artist offers a personal exploration of how sanctuaries take form and sustain us.
Social justice, nature, materiality, community, spirituality, and memory become sites of metamorphosis, opening portals into tangible alternate realities. While navigating the transcendent, environmental, and personal relationships within their lives, the artists trace the many ways a sanctuary can be a tool for transformation.
Sanctuaries ask us: What or who is your sanctuary? How does sanctuary surround you? And how do you hold it sacred? How do we return to ourselves, to one another, and to places that hold us?
