Lady Sings the Blues
Who better to play a legendary groundbreaking diva than another legendary groundbreaking diva! Diana Ross channels the great Billie Holiday – through the rise of her star to the shadow of her heroin addiction. Beginning with her traumatic youth, this jazzy biopic depicts her early attempts at a singing career and her eventual rise to stardom, as well as her difficult relationship with Louis McKay, her boyfriend and manager. Casting a shadow over even Holiday’s brightest moments is the vocalist’s severe drug addiction, which threatens to end both her career and her life. Produced by Motown Productions with an all-star supporting cast including Scatman Crothers, Richard Pryor, and Billy D. Williams, this showstopper was nominated for 5 Academy Awards, including Diana Ross for her phenomenal performance.
