Yasujirō Ozu takes his exquisitely composed slice of life mastery to the seaside in a reimagining of his 1934 film A Story of Floating Weeds – with one of the director’s few forays into color. With an elegantly simple plot wherein an aging actor returns to a small town with his troupe and reunites with his former lover and illegitimate son, a scenario that enrages his current mistress and results in heartbreak for all. Tender, comic, understated and remarkably beautiful in its composition and cinematography, leave the world behind and lose yourself in this international classic.
