Eight Men Out on 35mm
Vidiots salutes the end of baseball season with John Sayles’ home-run of a sports film Eight Men Out on glorious 35mm!
Indie-film legend John Sayles turns his camera on a real-life scandal that rocked the world of baseball and the larger American culture: the decision by eight members of the Chicago White Sox to throw the 1919 World Series in exchange for a payoff from organized crime. Eight Men Out takes a sorrowful look at both the fixed games and their aftermath, when a pair of sports journalists figured out the truth and all eight players were banned from professional baseball for life: Sayles understands that what they did was wrong, but also that their actions were the result of systemic exploitation in which the players were cheated by their owner. The all-star cast includes John Cusack, Clifton James, Michael Lerner, Christopher Lloyd, D.B. Sweeney, John Mahoney, and Charlie Sheen.
