A Girl Grows Wings

The creation of the play was commissioned by LTC to Marisela Treviño Orta to address the theme of dreamers, undocumented young people who came to the United States as children and who have assimilated to the traditions of this country, but who after finishing secondary school encounter a large legal barrier that prevents them from continuing with their goals. The dreamers have organized to fight for their right to have “papers” that would give them a legal status of belonging. They are activists who seek the legalization of all immigrants. 

In 2012, they succeeded in getting Barack Obama to create the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program, an initiative to give these young people the opportunity to develop professionally, work, receive medical care, and travel to reunite with their families and to return to their origins and piece together the puzzle of their fragmented identity. DACA has been constantly at risk of disappearing due to the racist, anti-immigrant policy that prevails in the US.
