Vidiots remembers the luminous beauty and cinematic icon Claudia Cardinale with a screening of the Fellini masterpiece 8½.

One of the greatest meta masterpieces of all time, Federico Fellini’s surreal autobiographical treasure of cinematic maximalism is essential big screen viewing for any fan of film. Guido Anselmi (Marcello Mastroianni), a film director, finds himself creatively barren at the peak of his career. Urged by his doctors to rest, Anselmi heads for a luxurious resort, but a sorry group gathers—his producer, staff, actors, wife, mistress, and relatives—each one begging him to get on with the show. In retreat from their dependency, he fantasizes about past women and dreams of his childhood. Ponderous, huumorous, and mind-blowing – vacillating between realities with stunning black and white cinematography, a jazzy score from legendary Nino Rota, and a cavalcade of some of the most interesting faces in Italy, 8 1/2 is the kind of classic that continues to make us think about the endless potential and boundaries of cinema.
